What to Prepare Before Your Design Project Starts

The smoother the start, the smoother the project. Here is everything we recommend having ready before we begin.

The Essentials

1. Clear objectives. What do you want this project to achieve? More sales? A more professional look? A better user experience? Be specific — “I want a nice logo” is a starting point, but “I want a logo that works for both a physical shopfront sign and a small social media avatar” gives us something concrete to design for.

2. Target audience. Who are you trying to reach? The design choices for a children’s toy brand are very different from those for a law firm. Age range, location, income level, and preferences all influence the direction.

3. Existing materials. Send us everything you currently have — logos, previous designs, brand guidelines, photos, brochures. Even if you are rebranding from scratch, seeing what exists helps us understand where you have been.

4. Visual references. Show us 3–5 examples of designs you like (from any industry). This is not about copying — it is about understanding your taste. Equally useful: examples of what you definitely do not want.

5. Budget range. You do not need an exact figure, but a ballpark helps us recommend the right scope. A budget of €500 and a budget of €5,000 lead to very different solutions — both can be good, but expectations need to match.

6. Timeline. Do you have a hard deadline? A trade show, a product launch, a funding pitch? Tell us upfront so we can plan accordingly. Rush jobs are possible but may incur additional fees.

Nice to Have

  • Competitor websites or social media profiles (what you want to differentiate from)
  • Colour preferences or colours to avoid
  • Industry-specific requirements (regulatory logos, legal disclaimers)
  • Content drafts (even rough ones)
  • Contact details for all decision-makers who will be approving work

The Number One Cause of Delays

Late content. We cannot design a brochure without text, or build a website without page copy. If your content is not ready, the project waits. We are happy to help with copywriting, but this needs to be part of the plan from the beginning.
